Since its premiere in 2013, this internationally acclaimed work has been performed in over 40 cities around the world and is dedicated to the legacy of Butoh icon Kazuo Ohno. Drawing on archival video footage, Kawaguchi reconstructs Ohno’s movements with remarkable precision, exploring how an artistic heritage can be physically embodied and transformed through another body.
The new version engages for the first time with Ohno’s late work—poignant moments in which the dancer, seated and moving almost solely with his hands, created powerful expressions of presence.
Through this careful re-composition, a resonant space emerges in which presence, transience, and the expressive potential of the body are brought into renewed focus.
