From autobiographical graphic novels to feminism, social issues, and explorations of contemporary identity, “women’s comics from the German-speaking world” offer a wide range of perspectives.
At the prestigious Max and Moritz Prize, awarded at Germany’s largest comics festival, female artists are making remarkable strides. Works by Nora Krug (Heimat) and Ulli Lust (Today is the Last Day of the Rest of Your Life) have been translated and published worldwide, drawing global attention to women comic artists from German-speaking countries.
We are pleased to welcome Karoline Bofinger as an online guest. She is a comics editor for the German edition of Le Monde diplomatique and co-editor of the book “A Journey Around the World with Le Monde diplomatique and 50 Comics.” She will give a lecture on the current state of comics in the German-speaking world and the contributions of female artists.
This participatory event invites you to explore outstanding works that unravel complex historical memories from personal perspectives and elevate the graphic novel to a literary art form through innovative visual styles. Join us for an in-depth discussion of their intellectual richness.
Participants are invited to bring a comic they would like to introduce and discuss. This is entirely optional, and you are equally welcome to join simply as part of the audience.
