Before the screening of Rosa von Praunheim’s iconic early work It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives, film and cultural journalist Jan Künemund will give a lecture on Praunheim’s filmmaking, with a particular focus on the film’s historical context and the controversial debate that It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives sparked in German society at the time.

Jan Künemund works as a freelance cultural journalist and heads the press and public relations department of the Schwules Museum (Gay Museum) in Berlin. He writes about film for various media outlets, serves on the selection committee of the DOK Leipzig Film Festival, and teaches at institutions including the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB). Most recently, he co-edited the book Queer Cinema Now! (Berlin, 2023).
