In addition, she will talk about the process behind her latest artistic work. The artist talk will take place on December 7th 2024 at 3PM in the seminar room of the Nam June Paik Art Center. Anne Duk Hee Jordan will take part online, while the audience can participate on site. The talk will be interpreted consecutively into Korean.
“Humming Chorus” is an exhibition that brings together the artists Anne Duk Hee Jordan, Eglė Budvytytė, Tetsuya Umeda, and Chan Sook Choi - each from different cultural backgrounds and with different modes of expression. Together they interpret and express modern society through a variety of sounds and rhythms.
They are part of the NJP Commission at the Nam June Paik Art Center that aims to present new works by mid-career artists who address significant issues in contemporary art and offer an in-depth exploration of their artistic worlds.
Berlin-based Anne Duk Hee Jordan explores the potential for co-evolution between humans and non-humans, creating immersive science fiction worlds through complex installations that incorporate video mapping, robots, and mechanical objects.
Her work begins with fundamental questions about what nature is by exploring the environment around her. From the microcosm of microorganisms, she captures the systems and operating principles inherent in the cosmos and nature, where humans and non-humans coexist, and expands them into a complex world.
Her most recent work focuses on “artificial stupidity” as opposed to artificial intelligence (AI), which is rapidly replacing human roles. By questioning the boundaries between intelligence and stupidity, she shows that AI, often perceived as intelligent, can make stupid decisions. In doing so, she suggests that “artificial stupidity” may offer an alternative way of understanding human behavior, rather than relying solely on AI.
Anne Duk Hee Jordan has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions, including the Center for Contemporary Arts Glasgow (2024), the Gwangju Biennale (2023), the Barbican Centre in London (2023), and transmediale in Berlin (2021/2022). In 2024, she will receive the Lip Society Award. A former rescue diver and kinesthetic therapist, she is currently Professor of New Media at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe.
