From generative image tools to autonomous systems, few developments have shaped today’s artistic and societal conversations as deeply as artificial intelligence (AI). But what truly sets AI apart in the arts? Beyond the buzz and commercial hype, AI challenges us to rethink core ideas about authorship, creativity, and power.
In this lecture, Miro Leon Bucher delves into AI as a medium, a method, and a space for social negotiation—exploring both its possibilities and its boundaries. He also makes a case for alternative AI systems—what he calls an “AI of the commons”—designed not just for the arts, but for society as a whole.
Miro Leon Bucher is a media artist and educator, teaching AI in art and architecture at the Department for Artistic Methods at RWTH Aachen University. He holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy and Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Cologne. His work—both artistic and theoretical—focuses on the intersection of technology, aesthetics, and systems of power.
This event is part of the Scientific Discussion Circle, organized by the German Embassy Seoul, the Alumni Network Germany-Korea, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Goethe-Institut Korea, and the Korean-German Society, with support from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The series offers a platform for researchers with ties to Germany to engage in dialogue on pressing contemporary issues.
Following the lecture, attendees are warmly invited to join a scientific discussion. The event will be held in German, with simultaneous interpretation into Korean.
