This year’s Lucky Supper Club is themed “Safe Space”. Our guests are theater director and author Jahye Khoo, along with Saekja, one of Korea's first trans women and performers.

In a relaxed atmosphere, the “Lucky Supper Club” offers an opportunity to eat together, exchange ideas, and engage with diverse perspectives. The invited guests will share their thoughts, experiences, and views on important societal topics with the audience. The audience is invited to join in the conversation at any time.

In a time when fears are felt on many levels – physical, mental, emotional, social, and interpersonal – the event aims to create a space where these experiences can be shared and reflected upon. The central question is what it means to feel safe and what conditions are necessary for a sense of security. Alongside discussions about individual and collective fears, the focus is on the concept of Safe Space: a place where open exchange can happen without judgment.

In that process, we want to recognize how important it is to create safe spaces, in which we can share these fears without fear of judgment. The focus here is not just on the fear itself, but on the feeling of safety - the conditions and spaces in which we feel safe.

Jahye Khoo is a South Korean playwright and director who combines social issues with experimental theatre forms. She is a member of the theatre collective “Theatre, definitely” and focuses on making marginalized voices visible through theatre.

Saekja is one of the first trans women and performers in Korea to openly share her life story on stage. She deeply explores themes such as identity, resistance, and self-empowerment from both a personal and political perspective, and strives to build solidarity with the next generation.

The second “Lucky Supper Club” event will take place on July 24 at 7 pm at the Goethe-Institut Seoul. The event will be held completely in Korean.
  • Registration is required to attend the event. The entrance fee is KRW 10,000. Please note that registration is binding.
  • The “Lucky Supper Club” is organized by the Goethe-Institut Korea in collaboration with Jisun Park and Bora Hong.
