Olaf Stüber is a Berlin‑based curator, publisher, and lecturer specializing in video art and time‑based media. In 2008, he co‑founded the international platform Videoart at Midnight together with collector Ivo Wessel. Since then, the project has offered ongoing insight into Berlin’s contemporary video art scene while creating a space for exchange between artists and audiences.
Videoart at Midnight is a monthly screening series held at Babylon Cinema in Berlin. Each edition is dedicated to a single artist and highlights a wide range of approaches within contemporary video art. By presenting works in a cinematic setting, the project encourages forms of viewing and discussion that differ from traditional exhibition contexts. Screenings are often accompanied by artist talks, performances, and lectures, opening up new formats for dialogue.
This program is organized on the occasion of Olaf Stüber’s visit to Korea, where he is participating in Loop+ 2026 in Busan—an extension of the video art fair LOOP, originally founded in Barcelona—presenting a new work by Young‑jun Tak. Building on this context, Stüber continues the conversation around contemporary moving‑image practices in Seoul through the framework of Videoart at Midnight.
On Tuesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m., Dongguk University will host a lecture and conversation with Olaf Stüber and Pip Chodorov at Munhwagwan (Room K223). The event will introduce the Videoart at Midnight project and explore key similarities and differences between experimental film and video art. Advance registration via email is required.
This will be followed by the screening program “Videoart at Midnight meets Seoul” on Wednesday, April 29, at 7:00 p.m. at Cinematheque Seoul Art Cinema. The evening will open with a brief introduction to Olaf Stüber’s project, followed by a presentation of a new work by Sylbee Kim and a short conversation about her life and artistic practice as a Berlin‑based Korean artist. The program will continue with screenings of works by Sylbee Kim, Ayoung Kim, Young‑jun Tak, Annika Kahrs, and Vika Kirchenbauer. Advance registration via this registration link is required.
*Both events require advance registration. Registration for the lecture is via email while registration for the screening program is available through the registration link.
