Artificial intelligence is reshaping global power structures. It can reinforce discrimination, deepen inequalities, and create new dependencies. How can AI be designed in a way that is fair, inclusive, and accountable?

The international conference “Shaping AI: Ethics, Power, Responsibility” will take place on June 15 and 16, 2026, in Berlin. Organized by the Goethe-Institut and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, the event brings together voices from civil society, academia, activism, and the public sector.

The program focuses on ethical responsibility, power dynamics, and structural discrimination in the context of AI. Contributors from Brazil, India, South Africa, and South Korea will share feminist and critical perspectives on discrimination.

Through keynotes, panel discussions, and workshops, participants will explore topics including:
  • AI and structural discrimination, including gender, race, and caste
  • Power, digital sovereignty, and the AI industry
  • Regulation, democratic oversight, and accountability
  • Knowledge systems, AI literacy, and epistemic justice
  • The social and environmental costs of AI infrastructures

The conference is designed for professionals in civic and political education, civil society organizations, researchers, activists, and anyone interested in critically examining the societal impact of AI.
