Guest Lecturer Fellowship Winter Semester 2026_27

The Art School Alliance (ASA) is an international exchange program launched in 2010 by the University of Fine Arts Hamburg with the goal of intensifying links and exchange between famous art institutions, art students and young artists all over the world. Today it fosters encounter and exchange for more than 40 fellows per year, living and working at the Art School Alliance’s Residency in Hamburg or at the partner institutions abroad. The Art School Alliance seeks to broaden and diversify its networks and therefore offers a Guest Lecturer Fellowship at HFBK Hamburg

 

Entitled for application are

  • up-in-coming-artists aged around 25 – 38 years who explore and experiment around painting / drawing, sculpture, time-based media, stage design, photography and film and are interested to research and teach
  • who currently live and work in Nigeria, have a Nigerian citizenship (a passport valid until at least 2028) and are able to communicate on a sufficient level in either in English or German

The program by HFBK Hamburg and Goethe-Institute Nigeria offers

  • free accommodation and a studio in the Art School Alliance Residency (shared apartment),
  • a scholarship for cost of living,
  • travel expenses (Lagos – Hamburg – Lagos) and health insurance.
The ASA Guest Lecturer will be assigned to an HFBK department of interest and collaborate with students and professors during the winter semester 2026_27. In courses that have the character of seminars or workshops, the Guest Lecturer explores together with the students of all departments and study level an artistic field of choice. The fellowship runs five months (approximately 05 October 2026 – 3 March 2027) and is subject to the conditions of ASA by HFBK Hamburg and Goethe-Institute Nigeria.
 

Application Process

Application is possible digitally only and will close on 31 May 2026 (midnight Nigeria time). Please carefully compile the following documents first:

  • CV, including your academic or practical education and recent exhibitions or projects, your teaching experience (if any), your contact information (IMPORTANT: don’t forget your contact information as email, mobile, etc.), date / place of birth, address, etc.)
  • maximum 1 A-4 page on which you answer the following questions:
    • What would you like to discuss and practically do with the students of HFBK and why?
    • Tell us of a situation, where you discussed your work with someone else (audience, online, family, friends, other artists…) and what challenges you faced?
    • What do you think you can gain from this program and international exchange and how would you bring this back to Nigeria to create a change?
  • portfolio of your work (ca. 15 recent works)
Convert all documents into one PDF which has a maximum size of 10 MB, in exactly the order as described above. Name the PDF according to the following scheme: MyLastName_MyFirstName.pdf - > for example: Abiodun_Esther.pdf
