In today's globalized world, cross-border journalism can be the key to understanding events that transcend national borders. Issues such as climate change, migration crises, pandemics, and international conflicts require a journalistic approach that goes beyond geographical boundaries. Cross-border journalism can play a vital role in promoting transparency and accountability among governments and institutions. The development of networked investigations is crucial to informing the public and promoting a broader understanding of global challenges.

In this masterclass with Paulo Pena (Investigate Europe), we will address the specificities of this branch of journalism and how networked investigations can be developed.

Paulo Pena
Paulo Pena was born in Lisbon 51 years ago. He studied journalism at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. He has been a journalist since 1997. He was editor at Visão magazine and a senior reporter at Público and Diário de Notícias. In 2016, he founded, with eight journalists, the Investigate Europe consortium, which publishes regularly in Europe's leading media outlets. He is also co-founder of Projecto Inocência in Portugal. He has written three non-fiction books on student opposition to the Portuguese dictatorship (Grandes Planos, Âncora, 2001), the financial crisis (Jogos de Poder, Esfera dos Livros, 2014), and online disinformation (Fábrica de Mentiras, Penguin Random House, 2019). He co-authored the series Teorias da Conspiração (RTP, 2018). Among other awards, he received the Gazeta de Imprensa Award (2013) and the Gazeta Revelação Award (2001) from the Journalists' Club.
