In a world increasingly shaped by science and technology, scientific communication has become an essential skill for journalists who want to report accurately, clearly, and with impact. This masterclass with Joana Lobo Antunes is designed especially for journalists and journalism students who want to deepen their knowledge of scientific reporting and improve their interaction with the academic community.

Throughout the session, practical strategies for navigating the academic universe will be discussed, including its timelines, dynamics, and codes. One of the main focuses will be the relationship between journalists and researchers: how to establish contact, formulate effective questions, and build trusting relationships that foster more fluid and productive communication. Techniques for obtaining clearer and more accessible answers will also be explored, even when the topics involve technical language or complex concepts. The masterclass also proposes a reflection on the barriers that often hinder dialogue between science and journalism — such as differences in language, expectations, and pace — and offers tools to overcome them.
