On March 12 at 8 PM, German pianist Boris Schönleber will play pieces by the German composers Richard Wagner (1813-1883), Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and by the Austrian composer Hugo Wolf (1860-1903). For Boris Schönleber, this is a comeback to a well-known territory: in 2014, the pianist already performed several concerts at Goethe-Institut Hanoi.
With Schuman’s Fantasie op. 17 and Kreisleriana op. 16 we will listen to two of the most popular pieces by Schumann. Fantasie is a passionate and agitated piece which revolves around the mental torments that Schumann suffered from in his mid-twenties: he had just confessed his love to his future wife Clara when her father – who was also Schumann’s piano teacher – tried to bring the budding romance to an end. His fear of losing his beloved one led the composer into depression. Schumann wrote to Clara: “The first movement [of Fantasie] may well be the most passionate I have ever composed – a deep lament for you.”
Within the frame of his Vietnam tour Boris Schönleber will play several concerts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Together with Katharina Padrok (Mezzosopran) and Sebastian Myrus (Tenor) he will perform parts of the Italian songbook by Hugo Wolf. In Hanoi, the trio will be accompanied on stage by two dancers from the Dance Academy Hanoi.
