"Every Body in Motion" — the inclusive performing arts festival week — is the result of an ongoing process of working with the themes of inclusive arts and the participation of persons with disabilities in theatre and the performing arts. Works diverse in form and approach to the subject will be presented to the public from October 20 to 25.
The works are arranged and introduced to the audience as a journey of searching: beginning with dreams of a fantastical world, joyful with hope for the endurance of humanistic values, troubled and torn by the conflicts of separation and disconnection, quiet with a moment of pause at a crossroads, and ultimately confronting one's own sense of being lost.
The Blind marks the final stage of this journey of discovery, where audiences are invited to confront the characters' sense of disorientation and loss.
A young man leads twelve blind individuals away from their former lives. Pausing in a deserted forest, they wait and wait for their guide to return. As hope begins to fade, can they still find a way forward together?
The performance is adapted from Les Aveugles (1890) by Maurice Maeterlinck, the Belgian playwright and recipient of the 1911 Nobel Prize in Literature.
This adaptation has been developed through the voices and experiences of both blind and sighted performers, opening up a distinctive interpretation of the original work.
