FAQ

NO. The programme attended must be a full-time programme. Part-time programmes are not accepted.

NO. EU Scholarship Programme does not award any grant to be used in the UK.

NO. You do not have to bring any documents to the office. Applicants must upload all their documents on the portal during online application.

YES. Those who benefitted from the EU Scholarship Programme before (except in academic years 2024/25 and 2025/26) are eligible to re-apply. A score reduction methodology will apply to these applicants. Please refer to Annex 7 for detailed information.

NO. There is no limit on the choice of subjects. Applicants are welcome to apply in any subject they want.

NO. The tests can be taken either in English or Turkish language. The choice of language will not bring any advantage to the applicant. However, once you submit your online application, you cannot change your choice of language of the tests.

You can prove 7 years of education by transcripts showing each academic year or another official document from your school. Alternatively, we have a template on our Goethe Applicatıon Portal (GAP) for this purpose. You can print it and ask the school management to complete and sign it for you.

There are a few ways of proving your employment depending on your employment type. Please check Section 5 of the Guidelines for details.

YES. If the applicant was not born in Cyprus but one of his/her parents is, then the applicant is eligible to apply.

The grant amount depends on certain factors such as the duration of the programme, the EU country chosen and cost of the programme. Please see Section 1 of the Guidelines for details.

YES. If the applicant was born in Cyprus but parents were not, then the applicant is eligible to apply.

You can apply for this academic year because you withdrew from the EU Scholarship Programme last academic year and did not use the grant. Therefore, score reduction methodology will not apply to you.

YES. Although you must choose the EU country you want to go for your studies during online application, you have time to change your country choice until you sign the grant contract. Please see Section 7 of our Guidelines for details.

NO. Final year high school students can apply for a language course, but it must be for one academic year, i.e. 10 months. Please refer to PD/UG Guidelines for more information.

In order to change the subject initially written on the application form to another, applicants should get the approval of EU Scholarship Programme. For this, applicants should write an e-mail to euscholarships-cyprus@goethe.de explaining their reasons of wanting the change. If approved, subject can be changed. Please see Section 7 of the Guidelines for details.

The FL category is intended for final-year students or recent graduates of any public or private high school / vocational high school / college located in Cyprus (academic years 2022/23, 2023/24, or 2024/25). Applications must be submitted within 3 years after graduating from high school.

All applicants should provide a certificate of residence from Cyprus. The date on the certificate should not be older than year 2025.

NO. Applicants can only apply for one category only and they cannot change their category after the submission of their online application.

The EU Scholarship grant cannot be postponed. It must be used within the period specified.

For applicants applying under the PG, PD-UG 1, PD-UG 2, and FL categories: The scholarship is strictly limited for use during the Fall semester and therefore cannot begin in January 2027.

Applicants applying for a short-term programme, however, can start their programme in year 2027 (the next year) on the condition that they complete their programme on 15 September 2027. See Section 1 of our Guidelines for more details.

YES. Applicants do not have to have EU passport to apply. If you meet the eligibility criteria mentioned in Section 2 of the Guidelines, you can apply. Please note that applicants without EU passports will need a visa to enter the EU country. Obtaining the visa is the applicants’ own responsibility.

All applicants will be invited to the written tests. After the applications closed, an e-mail will be sent to all applicants giving detailed information about the written tests.

NO. The work experience should be cumulatively three years in the northern part of Cyprus, between January 2021 and April 2026.

Applicants can apply with an ID from northern part of Cyprus or any other country. Applicants can also apply with any passport. Having an EU passport is not a requirement for applying to the EU Scholarship.

Each category requires different documents. Please refer to Annex 5 of the Guidelines for a list of documents required from each category.

Motivation Letter will be written on the test day, not before.

NO. You don’t need an acceptance letter to apply for the EU Scholarship Programme. However, we strongly advise you to start your university search and applications to universities as early as possible in the Scholarship application process.

NO. It is the scholars’ responsibility to find their own host-institution. The EU Scholarship Programme Team does not provide counselling services.

It is the scholars’ responsibility to obtain a visa if required by the host country. The EU Scholarship Programme does not provide immigration advice to scholars. Scholars are strongly advised to be proactive in their visa applications and check the relevant embassy’s websites to learn about the application process and the documents required for visa application. As the EU Scholarship Programme, upon request, we can only provide a document confirming that you have been nominated for the scholarship, which may contribute to the visa application process.
