The Gimagine Award is a dynamic digital learning programme developed by the Goethe-Institut for young people aged 14–18. It offers an engaging introduction to the German language while at the same time promoting global awareness and intercultural skills. Participants work independently through a total of 13 or 26 modules respectively of a structured online platform and receive an official certificate upon completion—making it an ideal option for fulfilling the Skills Section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (“DofE”).
Use your learning for the DofE Award
The Friends of the Goethe-Institut UK are an Approved Activity Provider for the DofE Skill Section. As an Approved Activity Provider, the FGI UK deliver the Gimagine Award to DofE participants who would like to learn German from scratch or deepen their existing knowledge of German language and culture as part of their DofE’s Skill Section.
Duke of Edinburgh AwardHow does it work?
The Gimagine Award includes a dedicated route tailored to meet the DofE Skills Section requirements for both Bronze and Silver. This route consists of:Bronze/Silver (13 weeks/3 months)
- 10 hours of German language learning (choose either ‘German Starter’ for beginners or ‘German Booster’ for participants with pre-existing German skills)
- 3 hours of Global Learning modules (choose freely from 19 diverse themes – ranging from sustainability to arts and music, society and democracy, and linking Germany and the UK)
Silver (26 weeks/6 months)
- 20 hours of German language learning (choose either ‘German Starter’ for beginners or ‘German Booster’ for participants with pre-existing German skills)
- 6 hours of Global Learning modules (choose freely from 19 diverse themes – ranging from sustainability to arts and music, society and democracy, and linking Germany and the UK)
Once a participant has completed one of the routes outlined above, they will receive an automated certificate of completion. The FGI UK team of assessors will then create a tailored assessment report – outlining the participant’s achievements within the Gimagine Award - and upload it to eDofE.
