GIMAGINE Award
for young learners

The Gimagine Award is an innovative programme designed to equip learners (13-18) with their first German language skills and invaluable future competencies. A second tier (in development) caters to young learners who already have a level of German.

GIMAGINE Award

The digital learning programme is aimed at individual students and youth centre leaders and teachers with their (classroom) groups. By completing the Gimagine Award, learners receive an official certification that can also be used to fulfil the Skills section requirements of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Ready for gamified learning, competitions, live-events, and many more fun activities? The Gimagine Award may just be right for you!

The Gimagine Award

The Gimagine Award is divided into a German language and a Future Competency (‘Global Learning’) strand: In order to complete the Gimagine Award and to qualify for the certificate, learners must complete one entire German course (20 modules) and choose 5 out of 19 available Global learning modules, collecting points along the way. This usually takes up to 25 hours.

The platform

Group learning with teacher/youth centre leader support

The Gimagine Award is conceptualised to allow learners to progress independently. However, if a teacher/youth centre leader and their group want to work on the Gimagine Award collectively, e.g. as part of their German lessons, the DofE’s Award or a German club[PW1] , we’ve got your back: If you sign up as a teacher/youth centre leader with a group, all learners will be linked to your account. This way, teachers/youth centre leaders can monitor their learners’ progress and – if necessary – give them a little nudge when the learning journey slows down…

Individual learners: Take German for your DofE Skills!

The Gimagine Award is a great way to take German for your Duke of Edinburgh's Award skill! Our bespoke DofE route includes 10 hours of German language and 5 hours of Global learning modules, which means you will complete 15 hours of German learning for your Skill section. Speak to your assessor if you wish to do German for your DofE's Award skill and ask them to get in touch with us to receive an assessment form template. Once your assessor has agreed to you taking the Gimagine Award for your skill activity, you can sign up and start with the Gimagine Award! You can find the sign-up steps below.

Competitions, Live-Events and more

We continuously organise real-life activities and initiatives as part of the Gimagine programme to motivate and connect German learners across the UK. Sign up to our e-newsletter to never miss out on our offers! In our most recent Gimagine Award event, the First Finishers of the Gimagine Award – 8 students from two different schools – received the First Finisher’s Prize, awarded to them by the German Ambassador at the Sommerfest der deutschen Botschaft at the Goethe-Institut London!
