The agency of each and every individual is often forgotten, even in democracies. Yoann Bourgeois reminds of this responsibility with the work Democracy. The French artist and choreographer haseen creating original physical devices for years – in this case a moving platform mounted on a balanced central point.

Interacting with the device creates a strong sensory experience. Festival visitors are invited to coordinate their movements with one another, take hold of trust and find balance together: what does the idea of democracy feel like in our bodies?

However, it is not only about this moment of experience, but also about observation and identification. Bourgeois’s devices play with the universal forces which work between people and space. Thus visitors gain an experience of self-efficacy and reveal their links with nature.
