Discrimination occurs in many areas of life—for example, in everyday life, at work, when looking for an apartment, or in contact with authorities. It particularly often affects people because of their ethnic origin, skin color, religion, sexual identity, or other personal characteristics.

The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (ADS)

The independent Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency (ADS) is a German authority. It supports people who have been discriminated against or treated unfairly. The protections of the General Equal Treatment Act apply to all people, regardless of their residence status, including refugees and new immigrants. This protection applies primarily to employment, housing, and services.

The ADS explains what legal options are available, helps with finding advice, and shows ways to defend yourself.

Experiences of discrimination in the visa process

Many people experience discrimination when applying for a visa. The VisaWie? initiative is a coalition of various organizations that informs people about visas. They advocate for fair and transparent visa allocation and offer useful information, blogs, and support.

weact - Counseling on an Equal Footing
