About RUYA

RUYA (Arabic for “vision” or “perspective”) is the multimedia magazine of the Goethe-Institut in the Arab countries in North Africa and the Middle East. RUYA gives voice to the countless perspectives in the region on current cultural and socio-political issues.

RUYA is a magazine for anyone who appreciates a diversity of perspectives and is interested in the many facets of this multicultural region.

A Plurality of Perspectives

RUYA promotes intercultural exchange and dialogue in four languages. It presents and juxtaposes varying points of view. Alongside journalists, our authors are people who have great expertise in certain issues.

Solution-Oriented Journalism

RUYA addresses current social issues and problems and places possible solutions at the centre of its journalism. RUYA tells stories of achievement and highlights civil society’s potential to bring about positive change.

Inclusion and Diversity

We are convinced that inclusion and diversity are the only way towards a better future for the entire world. Every person, no matter their ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, physical ability or disability, should be able to actively participate in society and political decision-making.

We therefore regard our work as a means to promote inclusion and diversity. RUYA strives to create a platform and contents that are as accessible as possible. Moreover, we take care in working with diverse people and aim to increase their visibility.

Context Matters

RUYA does not provide daily news coverage. We take our time for thorough research and develop formats that we see fit for the issues of discussion. In doing so, we work with great attention to detail and the bigger picture always in mind.
