“Winners” by Soleen Yusef tells the story of a refugee girl who tries to gain a foothold in a school in Berlin-Wedding.

Mona fled Syria with her Kurdish family and arrives at an elementary school in Berlin's Wedding district. Most of the teachers are at their wits' end and the pupils' frustration levels are rising daily. Mona can barely speak German. But she can play soccer.

Mr. Che, a dedicated teacher, recognizes her extraordinary talent and includes her in the girls' team. But playing with the girls is more difficult than expected. Each of them is a fighter, but they can only be winners if they play together.
