Onleihe

Onleihe (eLibrary) of the Goethe-Institut Canada

What is the "Onleihe"?

Onleihe is the eLibrary of the Goethe-Institut Canada. This service allows you to borrow digital documents, such as eBooks, audio files and electronic newspapers, for a predetermined period of time, by downloading them through our Onleihe.

Returning the document isn't necessary; at the end of the loan period, the document automatically becomes unavailable.

With our Onleihe, borrowing documents is at your fingertips 24/7.

Who can use the "Onleihe"?

Every person who is interested, who lives in Canada and who is registered with our Onleihe, can use the services of this eLibrary.

Disclaimer: the use of Onleihe-media on Apple and Linux powered devices is very limited (at the moment, only eBooks in the ePub format). The use of Onleihe-media is not possible on Kindles. Why? Because Apple and Kindles have their own DRM, which are not compatible with some of the Onleihe’s documents' DRM. Please read the

Minimum Technical Requirements for eLibrary Use.

How do I register to use the "Onleihe"?

  1. Registration is necessary in order to use the Onleihe. For that purpose, please fill out the online registration form.
  2. A yearly fee of 10$ is required and can be paid through the Paypal service.
  3. Once your registration form has been received, one of our employees will contact you (during the work week, generally within 24 hours). We will send you a registration code which you will need to activate your access to the Onleihe.
  4. The activation is carried out by our "My goethe.de" personalized web platform. Enter your registration code under the "My eLibrary" menu item. If this is your first time using "My goethe.de", you must first create a user account for this service. The registration and use of "My Goethe.de" is free of charge.

From the moment when you first enter the registration code, you will have access to the Onleihe service for one year. After one year, this access automatically expires. If you wish to continue using the Onleihe service, you will need to fill out another registration form. You will then obtain a new registration code to renew your access to the Onleihe.
