Baiba Kurpniece, Latvia

Baiba Kurpniece Baiba Kurpniece graduated from the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with a Master of Arts from the Musicology Department. She is currently continuing her studies there by writing a doctoral thesis on the subject of ‘the institution of the symphony orchestra in the most recent period of Latvian culture’.

Since 1997, she has been teaching modules in the area of contemporary music at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. From 1998 to 2007, she served as director of the orchestras ‘Rīgas kamermūziķi’, ‘Sinfonietta Rīga’ and also of the project ‘Rīgas Festivāla orķestris’. Since 2008, she has been the artistic producer of the Latvian state concert agency ‘Latvijas Koncerti’ and of the state chamber orchestra ‘Sinfonietta Rīga’. Baiba Kurpniece was also among the founders of the ‘Arēna’ festival for new music in Latvia and is a member of the festival’s artistic board.
