The official launch of the project “The power of language” is a series of lectures in co-operation with the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich. The speakers will be four internationally renowned experts. Their lectures will illuminate various aspects of the subject “The power of language”.

Who does language belong to, or rather who is in charge of advancing it? When is language omnipotent and when is it powerless? How is multilingualism developed in a globalised world? These and further questions the experts will approach in the course of the lecture series "The power of language" from May until July in 2006 in Munich.

The conclusion of the series of lectures will be marked by a panel discussion with Prof. Dr. Limbach, President of the Goethe-Institut, Prof. Dr. Huber, Rector of the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, and Prof. Dr. Weiss, Social Sciences, Kassel University. Chair: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Ehlich, Institute of German as a Foreign Language/Transnational German Studies of the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in Munich. The panel discussion will take place at the Goethe-Forum Munich following the lecture by Prof. Dr. Hamel on July 18, 2006.
