Minorities, rural exodus, emigration – Covid-19 and the earthquakes throughout the last year have caused a double crisis, resulting in the impoverishment of many people in the central provinces of Central Croatia.
Therefore, the Goethe-Institut Croatia is developing a training program for young reporters focused on “poverty”. Its aim is to form an independent Croatian “Redakcija” with both a physical and virtual “newsroom” that will help journalists get a better idea of the relevant social and economic issues in the country and also gain valuable practical experience.
Under the direction of Barbara Matejčić, one of the most distinguished (multiple award-winning) journalists in the country, up to eight editors and freelance journalists from various mainstream and independent media in the country will be selected as participants.
In a total of six workshops, the participants will create articles on poverty, based on their own experiences, preferences and needs for research and reporting.
WHEN: From 14.05. 2021 until the end of the year
WHERE: The first workshop will take place at Klub Močvara in Zagreb, while others are likely to be completed online and in a hybrid format in direct contact with the mentors and colleagues.
