As part of the Dresden-Brazzaville twinning program, the municipalities of Dresden (Germany) and Brazzaville (Republic of Congo), in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Kamerun and in cooperation with Zentralwerk Dresden e.V. and Ateliers Sahm/Brazzaville, have set up an artist residency program for artists from Brazzaville and Dresden.
The aim of this artist residency program is to discover the Dresden art scene and exchange ideas and suggestions. Dresden, the capital of Saxony in Germany, is synonymous with museums, classical architecture, masterpieces, and a river, the Elbe. Brazzaville-based artist Ange Kayifa spent six weeks in Dresden in November-December 2024 to develop a performance installation project, while Dresden-based artist Manuel Frolik stayed in Brazzaville between August and September of the same year at ateliers Sahm to refine his visual art project. The two artists presented a joint exhibition entitled “Down by the River,” which opened on December 10, 2024, at the Zentralwerk Dresden.
