FOR WORLD BOOK DAY 2026

What is World Book Day?

On April 23, the whole world celebrates the International Day of the Book.
It is an important day because books connect people, spark curiosity, and bring new ideas. Many children and young people in Cameroon also read – maybe you too!
That’s why the Goethe‑Institut Kamerun organises a reading‑aloud competition.
Do you want to show how well you can read in German?
Then join in!

What is your assignment?

  1. Choose a book or story that you find exciting.
  2. Read your favourite passage aloud and record a video. Think about this: How can I read so that the text sounds exciting?
  3. Briefly introduce the book and explain what you like about it.

How will your entry be appreciated?

The jury looks at:
  1. Pronunciation: Are the words easy to understand?
  2. Fluency: Does your reading sound natural?
  3. Intonation: Do you read expressively and with feeling?
  4. Text comprehension: Do you show that you understand the text?
  5. Presentation: How are your posture and your voice?

Who can participate?

All students in secondary schools in Cameroon and Gabon who learn German.

What do you need to submit?
