As part of the Goethe-Découverte platform, the Goethe-Institut Kamerun presents the dance performance « Ô NEU » by EKRYTUR
Ella Essama, aka EKRYTUR, is a Cameroonian choreographer, performer, and circus artist from Yaoundé. His work explores the dialogue between urban, contemporary, and traditional dance, creating a hybrid and deeply rooted choreographic language. Between 2019 and 2023, EKRYTUR developed his artistic practice through training and collaborations with local and international professionals, shaping his distinctive approach to movement and performance.
The Goethe-Découverte 2026 winner in the Dance category, EKRYTUR has also won several competitions, including Bantou Star, Yara Découverte, Build Up Sessions, Dance SAKA, and The Last Popper. He has performed at major events such as the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2020 African Nations Championship.
Ella’s work has also been presented internationally through residencies, workshops, and festivals, including a 2024 tour in China with Les Filles du Soleil, the MODAPERF Biennale, RIAC, and MWASSI Festival in Congo-Brazzaville.
The Goethe‑Découverte 2026 laureate in the dance category presents Ô Neu (Tu es), a sensitive choreographic journey that explores solitude as a space for healing, self-reinvention, and inner regeneration. In an increasingly hyper-connected yet unbalanced world, the work invites us to return to intimacy, the body, memory, and silence as spaces of recovery.
Rooted in a process of self-discovery through choreography, the project explores fragmented identity, social pressures, and the artist’s place in a society experiencing a crisis of values. Inspired by the personal experience of becoming a father, confronting transgenerational trauma, and surviving episodes of depression, the work emerges from profound inner upheaval. Through movement and introspection, Ô Neu (Tu es) transforms personal vulnerability into a journey toward reconnection, healing, and renewal.
