Labdi is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, and producer whose musical world draws on various traditions and contemporary sounds from East Africa. As a player of the orutu, a traditional Kenyan instrument, she creates music that brings together Taarab, Ohangla, Benga, electronic sounds, and contemporary musical influences. Through her music, Labdi explores the possibilities of bringing together cultural heritage, experimentation, and contemporary creation. Her work is part of an approach open to collaborations and exchanges with artists from diverse cultural backgrounds. For her 2026 Goethe MobiArts tour, Labdi will present her musical world in several countries across the continent and collaborate with local musicians.

Launched by the Goethe-Institut in 2024, Goethe MobiArts is a program that promotes the mobility of artists from sub-Saharan Africa through the Goethe-Institut network. The project’s objectives are to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, facilitate access to new audiences and other markets, support talent from the region, and strengthen South-South cooperation. Labdi is performing in Cameroon as part of the Douala Music and Art Festival (DOMAF) in Douala.
