In the framework of this year’s Windcraft Music Fest the Goethe-Institut Cyprus presents the German musician Ruven Ruppik.
The music of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean meets with the tradition of jazz and modern electronic sounds! Get ready for a two-day music fiesta, in which the winds have the leading role; where tradition and modernity co-exist. Inspired by different music world traditions nine music groups formed by renowned musicians from Cyprus and abroad, will present their very personal music projects.
Ruven Ruppik is an established young percussionist who expresses himself through different music styles such as Flamenco, Mediterranean Music, Ottoman Music, Latin/Brazilian Music and explores the rich world of North Indian classical music. Over the last years Ruven has been touring around the world performing with various contemporary music projects and „world music ensembles“and giving numerous percussion workshops and masterclasses. At the Windcraft Music Fest, Ruven will perform with the newly formed group Levant Project, next to Giannis Koutis (ud, Cyprus) and Vahan Galstyan (duduk, Armenia) – an intercultural collaboration where original compositions based on the modal music tradition of the Eastern Mediterranean will be filtered through a modern perception.
Ruven will also offer a workshop for percussionists on 12th August 2018 at 4 p.m., approaching various rhythmical concepts that are related to different music styles, such as Flamenco, Eastern Mediterranean and Classical Indian Music.
