Join us for a captivating series of screenings and discussions that delve into the complexities of identity, belonging, and personal freedom. Featuring three thought-provoking films, this series promises to spark meaningful conversations and reflections.  The series starts with the screening of Talking About the Weather, which will be followed by a discussion with Olga Kourelou, film academic, and Iliana Koulafeti, researcher and historian.

Clara, who is 39, is doing her PhD in philosophy. She lives in a flat share in Kreuzberg, Berlin, and her teenage daughter lives with her ex. Choices Clara has made both in her personal and professional life seem to be little understood by her family living in rural Germany. A film about female bonds, the need for meaningful communication, life questions, distance and closeness and the challenges in finding true self-determination and independence.

EXPERTS

  • Olga Kourelou

    Olga Kourelou holds PhD in Film Studies from King’s College London. Having held teaching positions at King’s College London and Sussex University, she is now Research Fellow at the University of Nicosia and an independent film curator. She served as a member of the Cyprus Cinema Advisory Committee and has now been appointed to the Subcommittee for Script Evaluation.
    Olga’s research interests are in star studies, gender, race, and European cinema, with a particular focus on Greek-language film. She has contributed book chapters and articles to publications including New Cinemas: Journal of Contemporary Film, Journal of Greek Media and Culture and Celebrity Studies Journal.  

  • Iliana Koulafeti

    Iliana Koulafeti is a PhD student in the Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, with a background in History-Archaeology (National and Kapodestrian University of Athens/2013) and a master's degree in Contemporary Greek History (University of Cyprus/2019). Her research focuses on the formation of identities of displaced people in Cyprus in periods of conflict, using oral history and technology. She is interested in the creative use of oral history and its application in formal and informal education. She is the creator of the People of Cyprus Oral History Project and a founding member of the Cyprus Oral History Association.
