Mohammed Qaatab

Since the dawn of history, the tales of Yemen have been intertwined with the tales of coffee, that venerable beverage whose flavour expresses the spirit and culture of Yemen. In this project, Mohammed embarks on a journey through the mists of the Yemeni mountains to document the life of the Yemeni farmer and his deep connection to coffee cultivation, a cultivation that forms an integral part of his identity and history. Mohammed witnessed with his own eyes their passion and dedication to every detail of coffee cultivation, from caring for the small seedlings to picking the ripe coffee beans with precision and care. Mohammed succeeded to capture the beauty of coffee cultivation in Yemen, from the breathtaking landscapes to the tired but smiling faces of farmers. His photographs tell a human story that expresses the roots of identity in Yemen and sheds light on the importance of coffee cultivation in the lives of its people.
Mohammed Qaatab (b. 1988 in old Sana'a, Yemen) contributes alongside his role as a photography lecturer to the marketing department of Al Qima Yemeni Coffee Export Company. Moreover, he actively documents humanitarian and relief efforts with various organisations in Yemen. His passion lies in street and people photography, where he endeavours to capture their stories and experiences, portraying the beauty and depth of human reality.
