As a Czech-Dutch-German collaboration among the EUNIC Tokyo network, the Czech company 420PEOPLE presents an open rehearsal of their dance piece “WHERE” – an intimate duet created within the 42+PEOPLE project for dancers aged 42 and above.

Featuring two award-winning dancers, former Nederlands Dans Theatre member Václav Kuneš and likewise internationally experienced Helena Arenbergerová, WHERE explores the depth, memory and presence of mature performers beyond the conventional limits of physical virtuosity. The piece unfolds a striking intimacy between two bodies, drawing on personal experience rather than narrative, and is performed with expressive precision and restraint. For her performance in “WHERE”, Helena Arenbergerová was awarded the Czech Thalia Award 2023 in the category DANCE.

Launched in 2022, the 42+PEOPLE concept creates space for dancers aged 42 and above. The project highlights the depth, professionalism, and authenticity that come with decades of artistic practice. Drawing on memory, personal history, and emotion, the choreography creates a profoundly moving experience that opens up new perspectives on dance and life.

420PEOPLE was founded in Prague in 2008 by Václav Kuneš and Nataša Novotná, following their work with Jiří Kylián’s Nederlands Dans Theater. The company has developed into one of the Czech Republic’s most acclaimed contemporary ensembles, known for its bold artistic vision, international collaborations, and choreographic originality. Kuneš’s long-standing artistic relationship with Japan includes performances and exchanges with Saburo Teshigawara, Rihoko Sato, and numerous Japanese dancers and institutions.

This open rehearsal offers a rare glimpse into a mature choreographic process – between memory, movement, and mutual listening.
