About the film
Emerging from the free-spirited avant-garde culture of 1980s West Berlin, “Die Tödliche Doris” was a multidisciplinary performance collective. Drawing on insights from member Käthe Kruse, RISIKO has specially compiled and edited a selection of the group's video works for DUF-BERLIN 79-89 film screening. This program offers an immersive journey into a world of experimental film, featuring performances that are chaotic, absurd, and irresistibly humorous.1980s / 29 min. / Germany
Directors: Die Tödliche Doris
Selection & Editing: RISIKO
Cast: Wolfgang Müller, Nikolaus Utermöhlen, Käthe Kruse.
Highlights
“Die Tödliche Doris” worked with experimental lip-sync performances, surreal soundscapes, and forms of physical expression inspired by natural disasters. The performance collective pursued its own artistic vision uncompromisingly, without being guided by financial interests or expectations. The film of the same name vividly captures the free, provocative, and at times dangerous energy of their art. Also featured is Tabea Blumenschein, known for her appearance in Ulrike Ottinger’s film Ticket of No Return.Talk after the Screening

Käthe Kruse
Visual Artist
From 1982 to 1988, she was a member of the performance and art collective Die Tödliche Doris. Her work spanned the intersections of performance, music, text, painting, and film. Today, she works as a visual artist, continuing to pursue an interdisciplinary approach and a deliberate embrace of amateurism. Her practice focuses on large-scale installations that combine a wide range of media and forms of expression. In 2023, she was appointed Chair of the International Artists Committee (IKG). In 2027, her solo exhibition “Ordnungen ihres Lebens” is scheduled to be presented in the new building of the LWL Museum of Cultural History in Münster.
