In "Sonnenallee" a look back into the GDR is dared - not whiney, but offensively sentimental and abundantly exaggerated. It‘s about young people, forbidden songs and dances and the great love that changes everything.

In "Sonnenallee" the life of young people in East Berlin or in the border area in 1973 is portrayed in a humorous way. The film is not always true to fact and exaggerates typical problems (sometimes in extreme ways) of GDR citizens to create a film that everyone understands, even without their own experience or already acquired knowledge of history.
