Our language course office is now open at 7 Anifowoshe Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, you would need to book appointment if you must visit the office.

However, we can be reached as usual via email: Goethe-Institut´s certificates can be picked up at the language office on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10:00 and 11:00am. However, you must book an appointment with language-lagos@goethe.de.

Registration information
Registration Requirements:
1. Proof of payment: Bank Transfer
2. Valid ID (Government issued or Student/staff ID)

In case you have had any previous knowledge of German, you can assess your level of German knowledge, by doing a placement test, create learning goals and help you choose the appropriate course.
How do I register for my course online?
To register, kindly follow the following steps:
  • Write an email to: Onlinecourses-lagos@goethe.de
  • You will be sent a detailed breakdown of the different formats of courses
  • Choose a format, and reply the email indicating your choice
  • A registration form will then be sent to you as requested
  • Fill the form and send back with the required additional documents:
(1) a copy of your identity card for verification, and
(2) a copy of your proof of payment.
  • Your code for the learning platform and registration on mygoethe.de will thereafter be sent to you, once your documents have been processed.
When is the next course registration?
Courses begin in January, April and September. The exact dates for the registration period are announced on our website and on our social media platforms:

How long is a course?
The course duration depends on the course format and the course level.  A list of our courses can be found here.
How much are the courses?
The course prices for each level are available here. Kindly note that the prices are subject to change.
I want to learn German, but I have no foreknowledge. Which level is right for me?
If you have no previous knowledge of German, you will start with the A1 course. The A1 course is designed for complete beginners in German.
A school in Germany asked me to bring a B2 Certificate.  Can I register directly for the B2 class?
If you have not taken any courses at Goethe-Institut previously and you want to register for the B2 class, you will be asked to take placement test to determine whether or not you have sufficient knowledge of German to register for a B2 course. If your knowledge of German is not sufficient for the B2 level, you will be advised on what level to register for.
Does Goethe-Institut Nigeria have other branches across the country?
At the moment, Goethe-Institut is situated in Lagos and has no branches in other States in Nigeria.
Can I get a refund for a course I registered for but cannot attend?
To get a refund, a notice of cancellation must be received by the Goethe-Institut 5-9 business days before the commencement of the course. A cancellation fee of 10% of the full course fee is applicable. No refunds will be paid from the day that the course starts, whether or not a participant cancels. Where the participant has cancelled the course, the participant acknowledges that the outstanding course fee amounts to a reasonable cancellation penalty.
Are your tutors qualified?
Our language instructors are highly qualified in modern teaching methods and language. They also participate in professional development trainings and seminars regularly.

1. Enrolment requirements

1.1 Minimum age for standard course: 16 years

1.2 A placement test is required for all learners who have not previously attended a course at Goethe-Institut Nigeria.

1.2.1 Participants, whose knowledge of German needs to be assessed, will take a placement test at no cost.

1.3 A valid nationally recognised means of identification is compulsory in order to complete registration. Applications without the required documents will not be processed.

1.4 Registration takes place on a first come, first served basis. 

2. Terms of payment / fees 

2.1 All payments must be made by bank transfer.

2.2 Course fees

2.2.1 Standard course fee with the course books cost =N=80,000, =N=85,000, =N=90,000 and =N=95,000 respectively

2.3 The full course fee is to be paid at the point of registration 

2.3.1 The standard course fee excludes the Goethe-Institut’s international examination fee. 

3. Cancellation of courses and refunds

3.1 Cancellations must be submitted in writing. The date of cancellation shall be the date of receipt at the Goethe-Institut Nigeria.

3.2 A cancellation fee of 25% of the full course fee is applicable should you cancel before the course starts.

3.3 No refunds after commencement of classes. 

4. Class size

4. 1 The group size of a standard course varies from 8-18 course participants.

4.2 Goethe-Institut reserves the right to adjust the course format, regroup classes or cancel the course if need be. 

5. Course format and duration of courses

5.1 Standard courses: one to three times per week 120 TU, 150 TU, 160 TU, 165 TU or 170 TU as applies. (1 teaching unit = 45 Minutes).

5.2 We currently offer only the standard course format. 

6. General

6.1 Participants who have attended less than 70% of all classes will not be issued a participation certificate. A participation certificate is issued only after the course has ended.

7. Responsibility of participants

Participants are obliged to comply with the course rules and the house rules applicable to Goethe-Institut.
8. Liability of the Goethe-Institut

The liability of the Goethe-Institut and its staff is limited to intentional and gross negligence. The Goethe-Institut accepts no liability for the cancellation of its services due to force majeure (e.g. Natural disasters, fire, floods, war, official orders and all the other circumstances beyond the control of the contractual parties).
