Exhibition

The University of Ife (today Obafemi Awolowo University) built between c. 1963 and c. 1980 by Israeli architect Arieh Sharon and his collaborators is one of the most iconic examples of modernist campus architecture in Africa. In 2020 the university has launched a major initiative for the formal recognition as a national monument and the development of a comprehensive conservation concept. The university aims to push forward the restoration of this outstanding heritage site and preserve the campus for future generations of students.

The exhibition shows impressions of the campus architecture, and the opening is framed by a panel discussion to discuss the development of the Conservation Management Plan, a project carried out by an international and interdisciplinary team since December 2020.

The project is commissioned by the Obafemi Awolowo University, who together with the Berlin based architectural office Brenne Architekten, the Nigerian architectural firm Stagray Associates, Nigerian photographer Deyemi Akande and the team at the Azrieli Architectural Archive (AAA) in Tel Aviv has been working in close collaboration.

We cordially invite you to join us for this enriching and enlightening event as we embark on this journey of cultural exploration and exchange.
