Carolin Emcke

(born: 18.08.1967 in Mülheim an der Ruhr), Author

Carolin Emcke studied Philosophy, Politics and History in London, Frankfurt am Main and Harvard. From 1998 to 2006 she reported for Spiegel magazine as a foreign correspondent from various crisis zones. From 2007 to 2014 she also worked as a foreign reporter for Die Zeit, again mainly in regions in a state of crisis. In 2004, a collection of edited letters from her time as a war reporter appeared in book form: Echoes of Violence: Letters from a War Reporter. In 2013 Emcke published her the biographical work How We Desire. In addition to receiving several journalism awards, Carolin Emcke was awarded the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 2016. She lives in Berlin.
