Public relations and project work in the cultural sector

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life in our nation. Our cultural and educational programmes encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement. They strengthen the development of structures in civil society and foster worldwide mobility.

The GOETHE-INSTITUT SAUDI ARABIA, based in Riyadh, is looking for a freelance staff member on a fee basis for the period from 15 September 2026 to 30 June 2027 for public relations and project work in the cultural sector.

What to Expect:

  • In collaboration with the institute’s management, you will be responsible for building a network in the cultural sector in Saudi Arabia and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.
  • You will organize meetings with partners and cultural professionals in Saudi Arabia (with a focus on Riyadh).
  • Together with the institute’s management, you will develop a new concept for cultural programming in Saudi Arabia.
  • You will prepare meetings and correspondence within your area of responsibility and assist the institute’s management.
  • You will help support artists, speakers, and guests of the institute.
  • You will support the institute’s management in communicating with ministries in collaboration with the embassy.
What We’re Looking For:
  • A completed university degree, ideally in business, cultural, or social sciences, cultural management, or a comparable field
  • Professional experience in organizing and coordinating events (preparation, implementation, evaluation, reporting) is a plus
  • Good knowledge of Saudi Arabian culture is a plus
  • Good IT skills (MS Office) and a willingness to quickly familiarize yourself with relevant programs and in-house systems
  • Very good command of English and Arabic (spoken and written), good command of German, and a willingness to continue learning German up to C1 level are a plus
  • Extensive experience in cultural contexts, intercultural competence, and strong communication skills
  • Strong ability to work in a team, reliability, and creativity
  • High level of commitment, personal responsibility, flexibility, and resilience
  • Willingness to work outside regular business hours, e.g., for evening or weekend events, as well as to travel within Saudi Arabia, the region, and to Germany
