In exchange with the world. For diversity, understanding, and trust.
Partnerships between schools in Saudi Arabia and schools in Germany

Since 2021, the Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabia has been promoting the introduction of German language teaching in schools through a project and has already established partnerships with several schools in the country. Depending on the type of school and the focus of the partner institution, children from grades 1 to 12 learn German there. The Goethe-Institut supports the partner schools in developing the curriculum, selecting and introducing textbooks, and training and continuing education for their teachers. Students at the partner schools have the opportunity to regularly participate in workshops offered by the Goethe-Institut.

In line with our motto “In exchange with the world,” one of the goals of the project is to network schools in Saudi Arabia and Germany. We are looking for schools in Germany that would be interested in cooperating with our partner schools in Saudi Arabia.

At this point, the question may arise: “Why Saudi Arabia?” Saudi Arabia is a country with an incredibly rich history and culture and strong traditions. In recent years, the country has undergone significant changes in many areas of social life and is continuing to work on opening up in many ways with its Vision 2030. Our partner schools are institutions with an international orientation, so that the student body – as in schools in Germany – is made up of students from many different countries. The partnership with a school in Germany is intended to give the children the opportunity to use and improve their German language skills. On the other hand, the exchange would give students from both partner schools – on both the Saudi and German sides – the opportunity to learn more about the educational and cultural traditions in each other's countries.

There are various ways in which a partnership can be structured. It often starts with a digital exchange between the partner schools, for example, as part of virtual teaching projects in which both sides participate. In the long term, it is possible to develop this into a student exchange program. As part of the student exchange, students would have the opportunity to visit the partner school in the other country and participate in classes there. During their stay abroad, they would live with a host family.

Contact with a potential partner school can be established either directly with the school or through the Goethe-Institut Saudi Arabia as an intermediary. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us. We will advise you on all questions relating to school partnerships and Saudi Arabia and help you establish contact with a suitable partner school.
  • Germany trip 2022

Our trip with two school principals and a teacher from the Al-Alson Schools in Riyadh took us from Frankfurt Airport first by train to Göttingen, where we were able to visit two potential partner schools as well as the local Goethe Institute with its STEM profile. We continued our journey—again by train, of course—to Berlin, where we were welcomed by Cornelsen Verlag, the preparatory college of the Technical University of Berlin, and the Goethe Institute. It was an intensive five-day program during which many contacts were made.

  • Youth Course 2025: Hana's Trip to Austria

As the winner of our competition on the topic of “Climate Change and Environmental Protection,” Hana received a scholarship for the Goethe-Institut's youth summer camp in Obertauern, Austria. • School trip to Cologne and Bonn 2025

This year's school trip with students from Ellesmere College Riyadh took us to Cologne and Bonn and offered a varied mix of culture, history, and encounters. Right at the start, we explored Cologne on a historical city tour, during which the students gained exciting insights into the long and eventful past of the cathedral city. A special highlight was the cable car ride across the Rhine, which offered an impressive view of Cologne and its landmarks.
