ABOUT

Premiere? We hardly know her. FFIGS is Singapore’s most unofficial film festival (think of us as the younger, hotter, gloriously unemployed cousin of SGIFF).

FFIGS is an expression of a collective desire to imagine other ways a film festival could be. Folks who love movies have tons to say. Every festival brings new questions, absurd ideas, and weird feelings. We rarely get to spill them in the moment. FFIGS gives us a place to do that. No stiff panels; just talking, messing around, and figuring things out together at 136 Goethe Lab.

FFIGS is independent. FFIGS will happen simultaneously with SGIFF. No premieres. No juries. No competition. Just the beautiful slimy mess of a film community fermenting together — sticky, alive, and a little bit forbidden.

Be ffiendish. Be ffun. Be ffigs.

CURRENT EVENTS

Outside of events, FFIGS Lounge is open for all to stop by. Think of it as an in-between space, a rest-stop on a cinephile’s journey. Hosted in 136 Goethe Lab, the FFIGS Lounge features a cozy film cave with F&B, communal activities and fringe events — an open space for conversations, rest and community.

We joined all our anime brain power and created THE awards ceremony that we think addresses all these thoughts, and we want YOUR opinion to decide the winners! Vote for the awards and RSVP for the ceremony: link can be found on our linktr.ee/ffigsffigsffigs.

THE ARTISTS

FFIGS is a co-created space, led by a non-hierarchical collective of programmers, artists, and community-builders. Like the fig fruit—formed through the nutrients of a digested wasp—FFIGS is oppositional yet nourishing. Its goal is to resist institutional mediation and instead foster intimacy, collective study, and shared political imagination around cinema.

THE SPACE

136 GOETHE LAB is a new project space at the Goethe-Institut Singapore. Housed in the former library and reading room, the space is intended as a response to the need for physical spaces for the arts, and an ongoing conversation with the public and arts community in Singapore.

FFIGS is supported as part of the open call for 136 GOETHE LAB, which invited applicants to activate the space with a group proposal.
