EU Short Film Tour Asia 2016 in Shanghai (from 10 to 17 December 2016)

In the context of the International Month of Short Film (December), The 4th EU Short Films Tour Asia 2016 is spending a week in Shanghai. This event is organized in partnership with European Film Academy, European Film Festival in China, EU Delegation in Beijing, Unifrance, Alliance Française Shanghai, Goethe Institute Shanghai, Moca Museum, CourtCourtRico, ICS (Shanghai Media Group), Design School of East China Normal University.

8 European films of the selection will be included in several screenings.

2 films makers will spend some days in Shanghai and visit China for the first time: Lola Quivoron and Olaf Taranczewski. They will attend screenings, workshops and other activities.

Screening of 3 short films including Dissonance (Germany) and The Runner (Spain).

Discussion and live performance with Olaf Taranczewski.

Olaf Taranczewski is the music composer of the German short film Dissonance which won the best music at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2015 and the best director prize at Shenzhen International short film festival on Friday 24 November 2016.

During this special event, you will be able to watch 3 European short films (subtitled in English and Chinese) which have all won awards in European major film festival. You will then have the opportunity to discuss with Olaf TARANCZEWSKI about the relation between music and film and listen to a live performance of great music themes of its own.

A participation of 50 RMB will grant access to the screening and will include a nice glass of wine, beer, soda or juice. (Early bird price at 40 RMB for any booking before Tuesday December 6).

She also practices photography. After two narrative short films and a short documentary directed within the school, SON OF THE WOLF is her fourth film.

Olaf Taranczewski is the music composer of the German short film Dissonance which won the best music at Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2015 and the best director prize at Shenzhen International short film festival on Friday 24 November 2016.

About EU Short Film Tour Asia 2016 in China

From 24 November to 18 December 2016, Sinapses Asia and its partners are proud to bring again to China 8 European short films and 3 films makers for the 4th EU Short Films Tour Asia.
The screenings, workshops, award and other activities will happen in over 6 cities, including Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
The 8 short films have been provided by The European Film Academy and their producers/distributors. They were all finalists for the European Film Awards 2015 (12 December 2015, in Berlin).

A genius musician lives a lonely life in a surreal, floating world. He plays the piano every day in a gigantic concert hall, but there is nobody to listen. One day his animated world collapses and he must face reality. He only has one wish: to share his music with his daughter, but her mother doesn‘t allow it.

A foreign woman in a burqa brings her young son to a Copenhagen police station to get away from her abusive husband, yet the translator assigned to her seems unwilling to convey the true meaning of her words to the police, thus corrupting the truth of her terrible situation.

Olaf  TARANCZEWSKI, Music co-composer of «Dissonance»










Olaf Taranczewski was born in 1977 to German-Polish parents. He started playing the piano at the age of eight, with interest in European classical music, jazz and popular music. From 2000 to 2005, he studied jazz piano at the Conservatory of Mainz, Germany, followed by composition studies at the Cologne University of Performing Arts. Since 2003, he has recorded several albums and composed music for international short and feature films, cinematic and TV documentaries, TV shows, adverts, comedy, theatres, installations, and computer games. In 2015 he received the German Film Music Award (Best Music in a Film), and the Award for best original music in a Short Film at the Annecy film festival (France) for the music for “Dissonance” (co-composed by Frank Zerban). Olaf Taranczewski lives and works as composer and pianist in Berlin.
