What does family mean to you? This question only scratches the surface of the myriad of experiences that Rainbow Families encounter whether it pertains to legal status, social integration, or self-actualization. This session of Queer Talks will feature speakers from three Chinese Rainbow Families who will speak about how their lives intercept with traditional expectations and future ambitions.

The discourse surrounding queer refugees is usually focused on the physical act of escaping. However, what is often not discussed are the legal barriers in trying to “prove” one’s queerness while facing discrimination from other fellow refugees. This session of Queer Talks will explore the incredibly complex barriers that queer refugees have to navigate and feature videos from Rainbow Railroad and an interview with a refugee who recently applied for asylum.
