International German Olympics 2018
From 15th to 28th July 2018 the International German Olympics (IDO) takes place in Freiburg (Breisgau).
The IDO is the worldwide biggest competition for German language. Every two years, teenager from all around the world meet to compete in their most beloved foreign language. In 2016, 125 students from 64 countries participated. Besides contesting with each other for the trophy, the IDO is about mutual understanding, tolerance and cultural exchange. Just by taking part the students will profit.
The teens qualify in national preliminary rounds in their countries for the IDO. Two students per country are allowed to participate. They contest with each other to become world champions in the language level A2, B1, B2. In order to manage this, not just language skills, but also intercultural competences and the ability to work in international teams are highly requested.
In 2018, Vietnam takes part for the third time. During the last IDO in 2016, Nguyen Ngoc My from Nang Khieu High School in HCMC won the first prize in the A2 level.
NATIONAL PRELIMINARY ROUNDS IN VIETNAM
For fairness reasons, the following students are excluded from participation:
- Students whose native language is German or with at least one German-speaking parent.
- Students who lived longer than six month in a German-speaking country.
- Students who study at IGS HCMC or private schools with German as class or main communication language.
