This fruitful collaboration has led to an establishment of a new exhibition space in 2019. The Goethe Insitut took the financial load and gave entirely freedom to Manzi Art Space to design its own art programme with the following aims:
  • nurturing, supporting upcoming contemporary Vietnamese artists
  • enriching the local art scene and creating more opportunities for artistic and cultural exchanges in Vietnam
  • building more audience for the art by providing more public-involved and interactive activities
In two years and 4 months of the collaboration (Sep 2019 – Dec 2021), Manzi successfully organised quality exhibitions and events while offering a proper space for local and international discourse, for artists to socialise, experiment and practice. The space has also worked as a think tank and test lab where ideas are united, experimented and expressed in both academic and non-academic settings, via both popular and experimental means.

During the collaboration, more than 50 art events: 18 exhibitions, 7 concerts, 12 talks, 4 film screenings, 4 theatre performances, 3 open calls, 2 art tours and a residency programme with 6 artists in residence were implemented successfully, attracting more than 75,000 visitors/audiences and featuring/promoting more than 408 international and local artists.

In Dec 2019, the visit of the State Secretary Andreas Michaeli at Manzi Art Space was seen as a sign of solidarity and appreciation from the German Embassy and Goethe-Insitut towards the effort that the space has made for the artistic and cultural exchanges between Germany and Vietnam.
