Join us for an engaging discussion with guests from Germany and the Czech Republic as we explore the intersection of sustainability and theatre design.

The interdisciplinary panel will conclude with an open discussion, encouraging dialogue among artists, designers, and anyone interested in sustainability and environmentally conscious approaches to the design of performance spaces.

Dr. Carolin Baedeker from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment, and Energy will address pressing global and ecological challenges facing contemporary stage practice. She will introduce inspiring examples of best practice and innovative methods for sustainable production. Teresa Monfared, representing the Association for Scenography in Berlin, will present sustainable approaches in stage and costume design and offer a perspective on how theaters can use resources more responsibly and efficiently. Adam Svoboda, Managing Director of the Prague Quadrennial (PQ), will share insights from organizing the world’s largest international event dedicated to scenography, theater design, and performance space. He will demonstrate how the PQ is developing sustainable practices on a global scale and provide practical advice on integrating environmental responsibility into major cultural events and institutions. Robert Smolík from the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU) will bring in perspectives on new and emerging sustainable practices within Czech theater institutions.

The discussion will be moderated by Bettina Milz from the Pina Bausch Centre.

The discussion is hosted as part of the CYCLE UP! project, which is cofinanced from the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
