Following an invitation by Gudskul, members of five art collectives from Indonesia will discuss their different ways of working, their plural self-image as well as their social and political influences. Also within the art collectives, different generations exist - from those who once founded them to those who are continuing them. The "Lewat Liwet Talks" - Lewat means path, and Liwet is the name of a traditional Indonesian dish served on banana leaves and eaten together on special occasions - which took place in May 2021 were artistically animated by the creative studio Toma & Kako and are based on the continual research project FIXER, which has been running since 2010 and which reads and maps the development of art collective practice in Indonesia.

The participants of the discussion are:

SANGGAR ANAK AKAR (Jakarta, 1994): Yuli Setiawati & Abdurahman. One of the oldest collectives and alternative art schools in Jakarta, they focus on art education and protection for marginalized kids. Alumni of the program often became part of the collectives and continue the artivism in each year.

SERRUM (Jakarta, 2006): M.Sigit Budi & Moch. Hasrul. Through their program, Remedial, they foster and facilitate high school students to the contemporary art scene.

RUMAH BUDAYA SIKUKELUANG (Pekanbaru, 2010): Gusmarian & Ade Donora. An art collective based on activism and ecology in Rimbangbaling forest, Sikukeluang practice has been about being locally anchored with the indigenous community and exploring new mediums from digital art to public programming to sustain their practice.

SERBUKAYU (Surabaya, 2011): Dwiki Nugroho Mukti & Chandra Prasetyo Wibowo. Known for their public art project and involvement to enliven Jatim Biennale, Serbukayu dwells in strengthening the networks of young artists in East Java, as well fighting the outmoded art conception from older generations who ruled the bureaucracy.

DEGIL HOUSE (Medan, 2018): Citra Hasan & Tengku Ariy Dipantara. One of the youngest collectives in Medan, Degil House practices between accommodating local creative talents from music, poetry and visual arts, as well as negotiating with the conservatism from their local authorities.
