The Lagos-based sculptor and curator Folakunle Oshun, born in Ibadan, Nigeria, is the initiator and artistic director of the Lagos Biennial. He studied fine arts and art history at the University of Lagos and received the Potsdam Curator Award 2017.

Oshun is curator at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich and advisor for the Afrique 2020 season in France. In his artistic practice he examines the impact of politics and history on contemporary life. He focuses on sculpture and explores alternative dimensions of human sensibility, with an emphasis on sound and the interrelation between forms.
