The motto “Nothing about us without us” of the global disability rights movement highlights the importance of directly involving people with disabilities in the design of policies and programs to ensure equal opportunities and full participation in society.

As part of the Performing Architecture program at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale, two open access workshops will be held in November. The focus will be on the discussion and definition of terms related to diversity and the city, based on the Glossary of Urban Praxis and the publication New Words New World.

The workshops offer a theoretical and practical approach with exercises, games and movement to explore terms such as accessibility, care, inclusion, crip time, disability models (medical, social, political-relational), invisible disabilities, chronic diseases, neurodiversity, Spoon Theory and others. The aim is to create a “Glossary for Diversity” that can be used to make cities more accessible and inclusive for all.

Words, Bodies, Cities: A glossary for diversity is an initiative of the Goethe-Institut, Museo delle periferie, Urbane Praxis, nGbK Berlin, in collaboration with choreografer Alessandro Schiattarella.
