The spa potential of towns
Tapping into a spring? Karlovy Vary, Jáchymov and Ústí nad Labem. The first town has been a spa resort since time immemorial; Jáchymov only gained its reputation for hydrotherapy following the discovery of radon; Ústí, by contrast, has largely lost its spa potential due to mining.
In the new issue of Revue Prostor, themed ‘We Are Children of the Sea’, we explore water from every possible angle, including the phenomenon of spa culture, using the three cities mentioned as examples. We will discuss the specific characteristics of these towns, as well as water in general – both as a healing force and as a commodity that can lead to conflict – with journalist Alena Harciníková and Zuzana Řehořová from the T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute.
