The Exploitation of the Forests

Focus Theme:
2019 Humboldt and the Web of Life

25 years ago, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an association for the certification of sustainable forestry, was founded. The FSC seal is the world's most important eco-label. The Bonn-based FSC has so far certified forest management for more than 200 million hectares of forest. So, what is the ecological benefit of 25 years of FSC? To see if the FSC can stop the destruction of the jungles, Manfred Ladwig and Thomas Reutter spent months filming at the global hotspots of deforestation. Their investigative research reveals that the FSC does not remove the eco-label from companies accused of processing illegally harvested virgin forest. An investigative film about the links between FSC, illegal logging and the expulsion of indigenous people living in the forests.
